WWII U.S. Zippo "Windproof" Black Crackle Finish Lighter (1943-45)
This original WWII "Windproof" lighter was produced by Zippo Manufacturing Co. in Bradford, Pennsylvania. The case markings are somewhat concealed underneath the original black crackle finish. The factory finish is in good condition on the lower portion of the case, however the top piece exhibits paint loss due to heat exposure from consistent closing of the lighter while lit. That said, the hinge is still in good, functioning condition. Zippo manufactured two main varieties of black crackle finish lighters during the war. This particular example, with a three-barrel hinge, rounded bottom, and "PAT. 2032695" insert stamp, denotes wartime production ranging from 1943 to 1945. This lighter will require a flint and fluid to function.
