WWII U.S. Fixed Loop McCord M1 Helmet Shell (Mid-1941)
This is an original early-WWII U.S. McCord manufactured front seam fixed loop M1 helmet shell. The heat stamp of just 39B 2 dates the helmet's production to mid-1941 - months before the United States entered the war. It retains its original factory paint, cork texture, and OD#3 (khaki) chinstraps. The chinstraps feature the early cast-brass buckle, carried over from the M1917A1 helmet. The early style fixed loops are strong and intact, however there are a few stress cracks at the helmet's rear. The original owner appears to have used the helmet as a wash basin, as it exhibits a thin layer of soap residue throughout. To display this helmet properly, it really needs to be paired with either a first pattern Hawley, St. Clair, or even an experimental liner.
