WWII U.S. 8th Air Force Technician 3rd Grade's Ike Jacket (ID'd)

This original WWII U.S. Ike jacket is identified to Technician 3rd Grade Franklin L. Sluder, serial number 17091675. View the Veteran's Information Section for more details regarding Sluder's life and military service, however by reviewing the jacket's awards, we are able to learn much about him. Sluder served in the 8th Air Force for three years, with two of those years being spent overseas. He acted as a photography specialist, and received numerous awards during the war, including the: Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal, American Campaign Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one battle star. This jacket is a size 38R, and was manufactured by G. M. Uniform Co., Inc. on June 9, 1944. This jacket shows signs of use, but is in good condition.

    Pueblo County, Colorado resident, Franklin L. Sluder, serial number 17091675, was born in 1921. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps on September 23, 1942 in Pueblo, Colorado. Made available to the new owner, below, are Sluder's enlistment records from the National Archives. Normally, we would have also requested Sluder's complete file through a FOIA request, however there is a significant backlog at the time of writing - there is still plenty of research for the new owner to do!
