This is an original WWII leather liner strap. The leather is still quite soft and supple, however there is some flaking at its creases and the underside is grimey. The flat-lipped buckle is green painted steel, denoting early-war production. The strap features a combination of very early brown-painted steel and blackened brass United Carr rivets. This would be an ideal strap for a helmet liner with non-painted steel A-washers (including Hawley's and low-pressure liners).
