Early-WWII German M39 Luftschutz Gladiator Helmet & Liner Set
This is an original WWII German 1939 manufactured Luftschutz three-piece gladiator helmet. The RL2 38/28 stamping on the interior brim denotes production by the Paul Diener, Metalldrückerei und Stanzerei factory in Dresden, Germany. Interestingly, members of the Luftschutz were required to purchase their own helmets upon joining the organization and "Höchstpreis RM 8" means members were not to be charged more than 8 Reichsmarks per helmet. The helmet's outer circumference measures approximately 64 cm and it is outfitted with a size 56 leather liner. It retains its original factory blue paint and well-worn decal. The interior's original leather liner is in good condition, however its chinstrap is severed. Perhaps most interesting are the liner padding "pillows", constructed of recycled civilian cloth. The helmet's split pins and washers are all original and show no signs of tampering.
