WWI German Flashlight W/ Battery & Bulb (Captured & Personalized)
This is an original WWI German flashlight (taschenlampe) with its original Eveready battery and bulb. Interestingly, the case's bottom is scratched "Trier Dec. 23 1918", while the reverse features the initials "G.F.W.", and the top is marked "Weight". We can be certain a German-speaking soldier did not apply these markings as December is spelt "Dezember" in German. American troops entered and occupied Trier, Germany just three weeks earlier on December 2, 1918. G. F. Weight, being among them, likely "liberated" this flashlight and personalized it to commemorate his service. It is in good, used condition, however it will require a new battery and bulb to function.
