Original Late-WW2 U.S. M1-C Paratrooper Helmet & Westinghouse Airborne Liner (Named Set) For Sale

Late-WWII U.S. M1-C Paratrooper Helmet & Westinghouse Airborne Liner (Named Set)

This original late-WWII U.S. paratrooper helmet set shows signs of being issued to multiple officers. The McCord manufactured rear seam swivel loop M1-C helmet shell's heat stamp is 1179C, dating its production to November 1944. It features its original field repaint, cork texture, and tattered remnants of OD#7 (green) paratrooper chinstraps. The repaint has covered multiple name applications; most recently is an apparent "Lt. Boswell". The Westinghouse manufactured paratrooper liner retains original A-yokes with small wire buckles, factory installed beneath blackened brass A-washers. There is a debate among collectors as it relates to dating these liners, however we believe them to certainly be of wartime production, as this particular variation is exclusive to one manufacturer - Westinghouse (if these were converted by airborne riggers one would expect to see a wide variety of liner manufacturers and washer variations, however they're always Westinghouses with blackened brass A-washers). Additionally, very lightly used examples have surfaced that still retained their factory finish, showing unaltered rivet heads securing the A-yokes. This particular liner variation likely dates to mid-1945. Like the shell's exterior, the liner's repaint is also concealing the ID of an officer, "Major Piercy". The liner's khaki suspension shows signs of use, but remains intact. It comes outfitted with its original late-war headband. Even in its rough state, this helmet displays quite nicely and will serve as an excellent research opportunity for its new owner.
