WWII U.S. Zippo "Windproof" Black Crackle Finish Lighter (1943-45)
This original WWII "Windproof" lighter was produced by Zippo Manufacturing Co. in Bradford, Pennsylvania. The case markings are somewhat concealed underneath the original black crackle finish, which is in good condition. The finish is twice personalized with the apparent nickname of its original owner, "Slim". Zippo manufactured two main varieties of black crackle finish lighters during the war. This particular example, with a three-barrel hinge, rounded bottom, and "PAT. 2032695" insert stamp, denotes wartime production ranging from 1943 to 1945. The hinge is a little loose. The flint is intact and produces a spark - simply add lighter fluid!
