Since this helmet is in near perfect condition, it was sent to a well-known collector and authenticator, Scott Stevens of Bugme Militaria, for additional assurance. Scott has confirmed it to be an authentic wartime painted medic helmet. The Letter of Authenticity resulting from that inspection is shown in the second image and will be included in the sale. The McCord manufactured helmet is a front seam fixed loop. Its heat stamp of 444C dates the helmet's production to February 1943. In addition to the shell's original medic markings, it retains its original factory paint, cork texture, and brass-buckled khaki chinstraps. A bullet penetrated the net, front of the helmet, passed through the front center washer of the Westinghouse manufactured liner, and grazed the rear brim of the set. The liner features green painted steel A-washers, dating its production from mid-1943 to mid-1944. This set comes with its original net, headband, neckband, and partial green-buckled leather liner strap.
