This is an original WWII Yale Suspender & Belt Co. M1 helmet liner headband. The leather is in very good condition. The hardware is green painted steel, dating the headband's production from mid-1942 to late-1943. This would be an ideal headband for a helmet liner with either non-painted or green painted steel A-washers.
