This original WWII German manufactured M42 Nationalsozialistischen Kraftfahrkorps (NSKK) helmet belonged to Obergefreiter Tietz, feldpost number L15589. Ogefr. Tietz served in France as a member of Leichte Flak-Abteilung 84 (mot.) [Light Flak Unit 84, motorized], which is where the previous owner, an 82nd Airborne veteran, originally recovered the helmet during the war. This helmet would make for quite the ideal research project. The wearer's left side is adorned with an original NSKK decal; the decal exhibits an orange-gold colored laquer, consisitent with other NSKK helmets. At some point post-war, the wearer's right side and rear of the helmet were marked with swastikas and the front was inscribed with "German". The inside brim is size stamped NS62 lot number D229, denoting mid-1942 production by the Vereinigte Deutsche Nickelwerke, Schwerte factory. The interior features remnants of the helmet's original leather liner and chinstrap. The crown has rusted. The split pins and washers are all original and untouched.
