WWII U.S. Fixed Loop McCord M1 Helmet Shell (Mid-1941)
This is an original early-WWII U.S. McCord manufactured fixed loop M1 helmet shell. The combination of a faint heat stamp and a dusty interior makes it difficult to date this helmet. The fact that its longer strap tore right where its end keeper would have been points to it likely being of 1941 production as this was a known issue with not only the first M1s, but also their predecessor, the M1917A1 helmet. The helmet's early style fixed loops are strong and intact and it still retains its original factory finish and cork texture. This helmet would pair quite nicely with a first pattern Hawley, St. Clair, or even an experimental liner in equally rough condition.
