This is an original early-WWII U.S. M1 helmet set. The McCord manufactured fixed loop helmet shell's heat stamp of 228B dates its production to July 1942. The steel shell features its original factory paint, cork texture, and khaki chinstraps. The chinstrap exhibits a slight tear and an early cast brass buckle, carried over from the M1917A1 helmet. The shell has recently been paired with an original early-WWII Hawley manufactured helmet liner. The liner retains non-painted aluminum rectangular washers, a first pattern rayon suspension, and remnants of a stationary leather liner strap, dating the liner's production from mid-1941 to mid-1942. The rayon suspension is strong and intact. It has recently been outfitted with an original size 7 1/4 rayon headband and a Scholl Mfg. Co. khaki neckband. The headband is marked with the laundry number S-1864. The steel shell is dented and the Hawley liner is cracked throughout.
