WWII English to German Translation Guide Booklet (RAF & German POW Inscriptions)
This is an original Modern Languages for the Services, No. 2, German from Scratch, 3rd Edition, by the pseudonymous authors "Bill und Jock", published in Germany at war's end. It was written with the intention of assisting the English-speaking victors in communicating with the German populaton. On the reverse of the unfortunately separated cover are the inscriptions of a Royal Air Force serviceman, "1347502, J. Campbell, 2825 Squadron, RAF Regiment". Beneath Campbell's handwriting is that of a German, which appears to translate to "American Prisoners of War, (...) 1945, Peter Müller". Perhaps, the two became friends following the war and wished to stay in contact? This booklet would make for an excellent addition to a footlocker display.
