This is an original early-WWII manufactured rayon M1 helmet liner headband. The earliest rayon headbands featured an unnecessary leather strip that was not in contact with the wearer's forehead. This strip was eventually done away with on later examples as a cost-saving measure. In regards to rarity, we have owned hundreds of the later variety and only one of this type. It is a size 7 1/8. The leather remains soft and supple. It features United Carr marked nickel plated brass snaps. This would be an ideal headband for a first pattern Hawley, St. Clair, or even an experimental liner.
