This is an original WWII German M1931 helmet liner system. The leather liner is a size 57; to be paired with a size 64 helmet shell. Its reinforced aluminum band showcases a 1938 production stamp by Metall-Lederverarbeitung W.Z. Bln. Ch'burg 5. The leather components remain quite pliable, however there are a few knicks around the edge of the liner. The number '56' is inscribed at the rear of the liner; if this was added in order to quickly determine the liner's size, it is a mis-identification, which leads me to believe it might be a unit identification. The liner comes complete with its original period-shortened leather chinstrap. The chinstrap exhibits a grey-painted steel buckle. The underside of the leather appears to be named to a Wolyin. This would be an ideal liner system for an M35 helmet. Split pins sold separately.
