This is an original late-WWII U.S. Capac manufactured infantry M1 helmet liner. Painted atop its original factory finish at the front is an original Lieutenant's rank, while the rear is painted with an officer's "follow me" bar. The painted markings exhibit heavy micro-cracking. The liner features blackened brass A-washers, dating its production from mid-1944 to 1945. The original khaki suspension is strong and intact; it comes complete with an original Scholl Manufacturing Co. neckband and green-buckled leather liner strap, which has dried somewhat with age.
