This is an original, and quite unique, late-WWII German manufactured M42 helmet. It was reportedly brought home as a souvenir by a U.S. 3rd Armored Division soldier who liberated the Nordhausen concentration camp. The helmet's interior brim is size stamped hkp62, lot number 3901, denoting 1944 assembly by the Sachsichse Emaillierwerke, Lauter factory. This helmet showcases an original slate grey textured finish and a well-worn single party decal. The corresponding polizei decal appears to have been completely removed (if ever applied); this particular manufacturer produced many M42 double decal combat polizei helmets for use by concentration camp guards. Additionally, there are remnants of a red and brown camouflage paint scheme throughout. The interior retains its original size 55 leather liner, chinstrap, and damaged drawstring. The chinstrap is constructed of a coarse pigskin leather, and exhibits a grey painted steel buckle. The helmet's split pins and washers are all original and show no signs of tampering.
