Early-WWII U.S. Hood Rubber Low Pressure M1 Helmet Liner (1942-43)
This is an original early-WWII U.S. Hood Rubber Co. manufactured low pressure M1 helmet liner. Hood Rubber was the second least common producer during the war (behind General Fibre), with just 206,000 liners manufactured (Oosterman, 200). The exterior's original factory finish is wearing thin in some areas, revealing the liner's intricate design. The A-washers are non-painted steel, dating the liner's production from late-1942 to mid-1943. The interior crown features the iconic disk pattern, but its silver painted HR has worn away. The liner's khaki suspension remains strong and intact. Interestingly, the lower basket suspension was actually installed inverted. It comes complete with its original headband and a recently installed neckband. Like the liner itself, both accessories date from 1942 to 1943.
