Early-WWII U.S. Fixed Loop McCord M1 Helmet Shell With "M44" Net (May 1942)
This original early-WWII U.S. McCord manufactured fixed loop M1 helmet comes with its original “Net, Helmet, with Band”, better known by collectors as the “M44” net. Interestingly, it wasn’t until the M44 that the U.S. created its own camouflage helmet net. The vast majority of helmet nets seen in wartime photos are of British manufacture. This particular example even comes with its original instructional guide. The helmet's heat stamp of 165A dates its production to May 1942. It retains its original olive drab factory finish, cork texture, and OD#3 (khaki) chinstraps. Completing this helmet with a well used early or mid-war liner will make for an excellent display piece.
