This is an original early-WWII U.S. Army Service M1VA1 gas mask. This kit has seen better days, however it is complete. The M1VA1 was to be worn at the wearer's waist. When the wearer came into contact with chemical weapons, he could open the canvas bag, retrieve the mask, which was connected to a metal box filter via a rubber hose. The rubber hose remains soft and supple and the metal box filter is still secured in the canvas bag. Unfortunately, both the bag and rubber face mask are damaged.
