Early-WWII U.S. 8th Air Force Pilot First Lieutenant's Ike Jacket (British-Made)
This is an original early-WWII U.S. 8th Air Force first lieutenant's jacket. It began its life as a British-made four-pocket Class-A dress tunic before a tailor modified it to appear as an Ike jacket. It and all of its components are authentic, however when we originally sourced it the wings were unfortunately missing. Passing through the left-behind pin holes, we have faithfully added an original set of sterling silver pilot's wings, manufactured by Lloyd Garfield Balfour (L.G.B.). A blue rectangular felt patch backs the badge, which indicates its original owner saw combat as an air crew member. The collar devices are backed by wartime, flat-surfaced brass clutches, apart from one which is actually sterling silver. The bullion wire insignia on the sleeve indicates its original owner served two years overseas (six months per hashmark). The manufacturer's label has been removed, which is reportedly an indication that its original owner may have been killed in action and the jacket reissued. This piece has definitely seen use, with consistent wear and mothing throughout. Its measurements are as follows: overall length 21", chest 40", armpit to armpit 20", waist 32", and sleeve length 24" (from shoulder to hem).
